A social deduction party game with a romantic twist!

You’ve been invited! Lady Rose is hosting her annual masquerade dinner party for the who’s who of high society. This means that a certain special someone you’ve been crushing on will also be in attendance. You know what they say; at a masquerade, anything goes. Tonight is the night you will find your crush at the party and confess your deepest desires. But will you be able to recognize the supposed  love of your life while they’re in disguise…and what if someone else captures their heart before you?

Print and Game Prep Instructions

Print all images on 8.5x11” paper. In your printer settings, ensure that the printer prints every image to fill the page with minimal or no margins.

• Print 1 Guest Sheet for every player. You may use the provided Guest Sheet 1, Guest Sheet 2, or make your own custom Guest Sheet from the Guest Sheet Blank Template. You can switch everyone to a new character sheet between rounds, if you desire.
• Print 1 Rose Card sheet for every 4 players. Cut each sheet into 4 individual cards.
• If you would like to have a copy of the rules on hand, print the rules.pdf as well.
• Optionally, laminate the Guest Sheets and Rose Cards

This game is especially fun to play if you are hosting a true dinner party with food and drinks, and get your players to dress as though in a true masquerade. If you are providing masks, tyable ribbon-based masks are recommended over elastic bands, as ribbon masks accommodate more head shapes. It is important to gameplay that the players know each other’s name, so you may also want to provide name tags.

If the rose cards are not laminated, provide pencils for players to write on them with. If the rose cards are laminated, you can provide dry-erase markers to write with.

Masquerade is played in short rounds, with a recommended 3 rounds per game. The objective of the game is to identify your “crush” – another player who is playing as a secret character you have pre-selected – and hand them a rose card before time runs out. At the same time, you are playing as a character, and other players may be looking for you. If you are the first to correctly identify your crush and hand them a rose card, you have won that round. 

Before Round Begins

• Hand every player a character card. If less than 25 players are playing, mutually identify a range for everyone to play with. For example, if there are 15 players, let everyone know only characters 1-15 are in play.
• Hand every player a rose card and a writing implement
• Secretly assign each character from within the agreed upon range to one player.
• Instruct every player to secretly choose a character (from within the agreed upon range) to be their “crush” for the round. They cannot crush on their own character.
• Set a timer equal in minutes to the number of players. For example, if there are 12 players, the timer is 12 minutes.
• If you have nametags, ensure everyone is wearing one.

Gameplay

• Start the timer counting down. Make sure it is in view of all players, or give everyone regular time checks.
• Players will circulate and converse as though in a dinner party, asking and answering questions!
• When players think they have found their crush, they will hand them a rose card with a confession, and keep playing.
• When the timer runs out, all conversation ceases. 
• The players now reveal their identities, and if anyone guessed them correctly. Those who were the first to guess their crush’s identity correctly wins that round!
• To play a new round, assign everyone a new secret character, and have them pick a new crush.
